Step-by-step guides for registering, updating and managing your pet's microchip registration.

Finding your pet's microchip number

  • Paperwork: check adoption papers, breeder documents or vaccination records. The number is often on a barcode sticker.
  • Your vet: the clinic that implanted or checked the chip usually has the number in your pet's records.
  • A scan: any veterinary clinic or animal shelter can scan your pet to read the number.

Most microchip numbers are 15 digits. Some older chips use 9 or 10 digits, or include letters. PetChipHub accepts numeric chip numbers of 9–15 digits. You can type spaces or dots and we'll remove them.

Registering a pet

  1. Go to Register your pet and choose New registration.
  2. Enter the microchip number, your pet's details and your contact details.
  3. Review the summary, choose your registration option and pay by card.
  4. You'll see a confirmation page and get an email. An account is created for you automatically. Set a password to log in later.

If you close the page before paying, the registration isn't active. Start again and your details will be saved to the same record.

Updating your contact details

Keeping your phone number and email current is the most important thing you can do. To update them:

  1. Log in and open My Account.
  2. Choose Edit details next to any pet. Your phone number and address apply to every pet on your account.
  3. To change the email address you log in with, choose Change email address.

Correcting a mistake

You can fix most details yourself, including a mistyped microchip number, using Edit details in My Account. If you can't log in or something can't be changed, contact support with the microchip number and what needs correcting. Please email us from the address on your account.

Ownership transfers

If you've adopted, bought or been given a pet that's already microchipped, use Transfer ownership to register the chip with your own contact details. You can add the previous keeper's name and phone if you know them. That helps if there's ever a question about the transfer.

If you're rehoming a pet, give the new owner the microchip number and remove the pet from your account (My Account → Remove) once they've registered.

If your pet is lost

  1. Log in and choose Report lost next to your pet. You can add a description and photo.
  2. Your listing appears on the public Lost Pets page once approved, and anyone who looks up the chip will see your pet is missing.
  3. Contact local shelters, animal control and vet clinics, and check your phone number is up to date.
  4. When your pet is home, choose Mark as found.

If you've found a pet

Ask a vet or shelter to scan for a microchip, then look up the number. If it's registered with us, you can send the owner a message once you've created a free account. We review messages before forwarding them, and the owner's personal details aren't shared with you. If it isn't registered with us, try the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.

Cancellations & refunds

To cancel a registration and request a refund, email support@petchiphub.com from the email address on your account. Include your pet's name and microchip number. Each request is reviewed individually under our refund policy, and we'll reply by email.

If you just want to stop using PetChipHub, you can remove a pet or delete your account yourself in My Account.

More questions

What is PetChipHub?

PetChipHub is an online pet microchip registration database. When you register, your pet's microchip number is linked to your contact details. If someone finds your pet and looks up the chip number on PetChipHub, they can send you a message through us. Your phone number and address stay private.

What doesn't PetChipHub do?

We don't make or implant microchips, and we aren't a veterinary practice, a shelter or a government agency. Registering with us is voluntary and doesn't replace any registration your chip manufacturer or local authority may offer. A microchip only helps if the pet is scanned and the number is looked up, so we can't guarantee a lost pet will be found.

How much does registration cost?

Registration is a one-time payment. You'll see the exact price on the review page before you pay, and there's no subscription or automatic renewal. Payments are processed securely by Stripe.

I registered but never set a password. How do I log in?

An account is created automatically when you register. Use Forgot password with the email address you registered with, and we'll send you a secure link to set a password.

Who can see my information?

The public record for a microchip shows only your pet's details (name, type, breed, color and description) and whether it's reported lost. Your name, phone number, email and address are not shown publicly. See our Privacy Policy for details.

I found a pet. How do I contact the owner?

Ask a vet or shelter to scan the pet, then enter the number on our microchip lookup. If the chip is registered with us, you can send the owner a message (a free account is required to prevent misuse). We review messages before forwarding them. If it isn't registered with us, try the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.

How do I get help?

Use our contact form or email support@petchiphub.com. Please include your pet's microchip number if your question is about a specific registration.
